Training for Environmental Data Acquisition and Assessment, June 12, 15, 20, 26, 27, July 2, 3, 4, and 5

“Training for Environmental Data Acquisition and Assessment” was offered on June 12, 15, 20, 26, 27, July 2, 3, 4, and 5, 2012. The topics were soil sampling method and heavy metal analysis using Atomic absorption spectrophotometer and ICP-MS, radioactivity determination (Cs-137) using Germanium semiconductor analyzer for the former half. During the latter half, we visited sewage treatment plant and received a lecture on current issues of sewage treatment. Then, river water was collected in Tama River before and after the treated sewage flows in. The sample water was applied to analysis for ions and antibiotic substances using ion chromatograph and LC-MS/MS respectively. This domestic training focuses on how to evaluate the raw data namely calibration curve, effective digit, blank test, statistical estimation for suitable sample size and statistical evaluation of confidence of the data as well as acquisition of analysis skills. In this manner, the schedule is full with variety kinds of the contents and participants were very eager to learn especially this year. They are expected to be “Field-Oriented Leader in Environmental Sectors” in the future. (HO)
