With the spread of the new coronavirus infectious disease (COVID-19), the Japanese government announced a “Declaration of a State of Emergency" on April 7 for seven prefectures including Tokyo. Prior to that, on April 6, the TUAT New Coronavirus Countermeasures Headquarters announced its response policy and code of conduct. In addition, on April 7, the Institute of Agriculture, Graduate School of Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture, and United Graduate School of Agriculture launched a Joint Headquarters for New Coronavirus Infectious Diseases and notified our members of our immediate response. The Graduate School of Agriculture and Faculty of Agriculture has restricted access to the Fuchu Campus until May 31, and, in principle, all students are prohibited on campus.

The academic schedule has been revised to start online lectures on May 11 and in-person lectures on June 1.

In the Graduate School of Agriculture and Faculty of Agriculture, the prevention of infection and the protection of lives are our top priorities, and we have decided to take the following measures regarding education, research, and club activities.

?

About Educational Activities:

On May 11, we will start online lectures using e-learning platforms (Google Classroom, Moodle, etc.). We will inform you later with updated information from specific departments.

Online education allows you to repeatedly review recorded lecture materials, to deepen your understanding of the lecture content but this requires autonomy, independence, and initiative of the viewer or rather you as a student. Please ensure that you have enough time to prepare for and review online lectures and keep a regular rhythm in your life.

In some subjects, students will be asked to work on assignments using lecture materials or textbooks or other materials stored on the e-learning platforms, rather than recorded lecture materials. Please set aside enough time for self-study and work on your assignments.

?

About Research Activities:

Please have sufficient discussions and full consultation with your academic supervisor and limit on-campus activities to the minimum necessary to maintain research such as the management of living specimens such as plants and animals. Please be sure to bring your student ID card and your academic supervisor’s entry certificate with you when entering the campus. It is also prohibited to conduct field trips or field study off-campus. Please engage in voluntary research such as literature review and writing your own papers at home.

?

About Club Activities:

Please thoroughly discuss with your advisor and limit on-campus activities to the bare minimum required to maintain your circle activities such as the management of animals and plants. Also, be sure to avoid “Three Cs” overlap (1. Closed spaces with insufficient ventilation, 2. Crowded conditions with people, 3. Conversations within short distances) that increase the risk of spreading infection. Please be sure to bring your student ID card and adviser’s entry certificate when you enter the campus.

?

We think that everyone is forced to live a stressful life, not only in your studies but also in your daily life as you are forced to refrain from going out. Although the situation is severe, please act with the awareness that you are a member of TUAT and a member of society striving to bring an end to the new coronavirus infection. We believe that TUAT students have the adaptability and ability to take action to understand their own position and to engage in learning and research autonomously with ingenuity, regardless of the environment.

The entire faculty and staff will work together as one to overcome this difficult situation with the spirit of "We cannot afford to be defeated by the new coronavirus."

?

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
